Sky Sports commentator Martin Brundle has confirmed he will operate on a reduced schedule during the 2026 season and will not be present at every race. The former
Formula 1 driver has become a true veteran of television commentary over the years, first making his mark with the BBC before establishing himself as a cornerstone of Sky Sports’ coverage from 2012 onwards, forming one of the most iconic duos in the paddock alongside David Croft.
“I do 16 races a year, so I have to miss some and they tend to be the early-hours-of-the-morning races,” the Brit confirmed on the Sky
F1 Show podcast.
“But I always feel a bit sad when I’m not in Suzuka because I love that track as a driver and as a broadcaster, but I can’t do them all these days.”
The Brit has so far only been on commentary duty in Australia this year, missing the following rounds in China and Japan.
Brundle also didn’t cover every race last season, working 18 of the 24 rounds and sitting out the Japanese, Emilia Romagna, Austrian, Azerbaijan, Mexican and Las Vegas Grands Prix.

The 2009 world champion has been part of Sky’s coverage for several years, first appearing as a pundit in 2018 before taking on a commentary role from 2019, albeit on a part-time basis while still racing. Since then, Button has consistently impressed with his work behind the microphone, showing a strong ability to read races, anticipate developments and communicate them clearly to viewers.
Humphrey believes those qualities make him a natural successor to Brundle, highlighting his sharp analysis and engaging delivery as key strengths that set him apart.
