Max Verstappen made sure to raise a glass during the Formula 1 summer shutdown after his GT racing team finally secured an overdue victory. The Dutchman admitted he enjoyed “a good drink” to toast the breakthrough result, which arrived right at the beginning of his holiday.
Verstappen.com Racing has steadily expanded its footprint across multiple motorsport disciplines outside of Grand Prix racing, but the campaign has not been without its frustrations this season. Despite showing genuine front-running pace throughout the year, misfortune and freak incidents repeatedly denied the team the top-step finishes that their outright speed had deserved.
When speaking in the official FIA press conference ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend, Verstappen reflected on how much satisfaction the recent triumph delivered away from his day job in Formula 1. He explained that after enduring a string of difficult, unlucky race weekends, seeing the crew’s relentless efforts finally convert into silverware was a particularly sweet moment for everyone involved in the project.
“Yes, I mean, this year has been, I would say, quite unlucky,” Verstappen explained. “I think most race weekends were very quick, but, yes, for a lot of different kind of reasons or freak accidents, we never really got the rewards for it. So when you then finally see that result, the work that goes in from all the people, mechanics to engineers to drivers as well, really wanting to win, and then they finally get that win, was, yeah, a great moment. It was actually probably the first, yeah, like one of the first days of my holiday, so I had a good drink on that after that.”
The reigning World Champion emphasized that he was immensely proud of every team member involved in the operation. Crucially, that breakthrough success has not satisfied their competitive appetite and has intensified the squad’s hunger for further glory on the circuit.

“Very proud of everyone. And that's just the start. Want more,” Verstappen added. “Immediately after, they were like, ‘Okay, we want to win more.’ So it's nice to see that immediately, also in the first year with the car, immediately we're competitive. And winning is always very satisfying.”
