Multiple international outlets have reported — and GPblog can confirm — that long-serving mechanic Ole Schack has stepped down from his role with immediate effect, bringing an end to his tenure with the team he had been part of since its inception.

The Japanese Grand Prix marked his final appearance on the pit wall, meaning he will not travel to Miami — the first time he will be absent from a race weekend in Red Bull’s history. His exit adds to a growing list of departures from within Max Verstappen’s inner circle, once again linked to ongoing internal tensions.

Speaking on the Up to Speed Podcast, David Coulthard argued that Russell can no longer afford to play the ‘nice guy’ if he wants to mount a serious title challenge, insisting a far more ruthless approach is now required.

He described the situation as a turning point in Russell’s season, stressing that the battle at the front has become far more intense following Antonelli’s breakthrough win. In his view, Russell must now respond decisively and adopt a tougher mindset if he is to stay in the fight.

The former driver also pointed to a recent behind-the-scenes clip shared by Mercedes, showing a real-time debrief between Russell and Wolff. He highlighted how the footage offered rare insight into the team dynamic, with Wolff balancing support and encouragement while reinforcing his belief in Russell.
