After a hugely successful driver parade in Miami last season, LEGO returns to the F1 grid at Silverstone this weekend, with all 22 drivers this time given the opportunity at a lap around the British GP circuit in their own mini LEGO car - although Lewis Hamilton has suggested he may miss out on the 'race.' Speaking at the press conferences on Thursday's media day, drivers including Hamilton and world champion
Lando Norris, were asked on
LEGO's return to the F1 grid, and while most expressed excitement at Sunday's prospect, others may not be as keen.
"I'm indifferent," Aston Martin's
Lance Stroll said.
"I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. I'm not gonna wake up super early in the morning excited about it. Just another one of those drivers' parades." "I'm pretty excited for it actually," Norris quipped, before Stroll jokingly suggested that things would be more interesting if the cars had 600hp.
Norris continued: "If it's like Miami was, then, I think whoever can make it back to the start line will be a winner already, so, I think it's it's a cool thing to do. It's different. It's nice obviously when you're all together and you can have a little chit chat and, and see the fans when you're on the truck, but I think it's nice to do something different every now and then.
"So as long as it's yeah, safe and we all behave, which we shall, then then yeah, it will be a jolly good ride."
In the second drivers' press conference, Racing Bulls' Arvid Lindblad and
Cadillac's
Valtteri Bottas, neither of whom took part in the LEGO race in Miami last year, were just as excited as Norris - even laying out strategies for the event.
Bottas said: "I'm actually really excited because I missed it in in Miami last year when I was watching it and it looks so fun. So I think the key will be, because everyone is capped to 25 km/h, so I think saving distance is probably the key... and using tow."
Lindblad, meanwhile, won't be eying the win on Sunday: "For me, I don't think that race is going to be about winning, it's just about having some fun and, maximum damage."
Hamilton might miss LEGO Silverstone race
Speaking alongside Lindblad and Bottas, seven-time world champion Hamilton made the suggestion he won't be taking part in the drivers' parade event, despite reflecting on a "hilarious" LEGO last time out in Miami.
"I mean, it's the most dangerous part of the weekend," Hamilton joked. "So, I let Charles drive last time and it was just hilarious watching everyone crashing into each other. So yeah, I don't know whether or not I'll be in the LEGO car this year."
When asked if there was a specific reason why he may not be able to take part, Hamilton was tight-lipped: "I mean, there's not really much to say on the, on the car thing, that's something I need to take offline."
