As we wait for Formula 1 to return to action at Zandvoort following the summer break, let's look back at the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix, won by Oscar Piastri ahead of Max Verstappen and marked by Lando Norris' dramatic DNF in the closing stages.
In 2025, Zandvoort hosted the 15th round of the season and represented a crucial turning point in the title fight, with Oscar Piastri having dominated the first half of the campaign and increasingly establishing himself as the undisputed championship leader.
Piastri started the race from pole position, with championship rival Norris alongside him on the front row and home favourite Max Verstappen ready to attack from just behind. It was Verstappen who immediately stole the spotlight at the start, producing a spectacular move on Norris around the outside of Turn 3. The Red Bull briefly snapped sideways and threatened to spin, but Verstappen somehow kept it under control to emerge in second place behind Piastri.
McLaren's superior race pace soon became clear, however, and by Lap 9 Norris was able to fight his way back past Verstappen with a superb move around the outside of Turn 1, putting himself back on the tail of his teammate.

The first major twist of the race came on Lap 23, when Lewis Hamilton spun on his own and crashed into the barriers, forcing him to retire his SF-25 and bringing out the Safety Car. Racing resumed on Lap 26, with Isack Hadjar finding himself in podium contention as he battled George Russell for fourth place.

On Lap 32, Charles Leclerc launched an impressive move around the outside of George Russell, putting himself firmly in the hunt for a podium finish. His race would come to a premature end on Lap 53, however, when a misunderstanding over their lines with Kimi Antonelli sent the Ferrari driver into a spin and into the barriers. Leclerc was forced to retire, completing a costly double DNF for Ferrari.
The Safety Car was called into action once again, with racing resuming on Lap 57. Norris immediately began putting pressure on his teammate as he looked to gain valuable ground in the championship, but with just seven laps remaining, his McLaren let him down and forced him into retirement.
Norris' retirement promoted Verstappen by one position, while Piastri, now left without any real threat, went on to claim another crucial victory in his title charge. The result saw the Australian extend his championship lead to a commanding 104 points over the home favourite.

The biggest surprise of the race, however, was Hadjar, who moved up to third following Norris' retirement and secured his maiden Formula 1 podium after a remarkably solid performance.

How wet weather could shake up the final Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort

While last year's Dutch Grand Prix was held in dry conditions, the weather could play a much bigger role at Zandvoort this time around, with a cold and potentially rainy weekend forecast on the North Sea coast.
Friday is expected to see temperatures of around 20 degrees Celsius, with a 40% chance of rain as the drivers take to the track for the only free practice session before Sprint Qualifying.

The risk of rain is set to increase further on Saturday, reaching 45%, with showers particularly likely during the Sprint. Conditions are expected to improve slightly later in the day for Qualifying, although temperatures will remain cool at around 19 degrees Celsius.
Sunday could bring brighter conditions, with some sunshine possible over Zandvoort. Temperatures are still only expected to reach 20 degrees Celsius, however, while the chance of rain drops to 21%.
