Rafael Camara is set to start from pole position after Invicta Racing's superb job to repair his car in time after initially brushing the wall in Monte Carlo. This is the Brazilian talent's first pole position in the competition.
On this occasion, the
Formula 2 qualifying session took place in two separate groups. Each of the eleven teams had one driver in the first group and the other in the second. The group containing the fastest driver would occupy positions P1, P3, P5, and so on, while the drivers from the other group would line up on the opposite side of the grid.
The first red flag of the session came in Group 1 with around four minutes remaining, when Trident driver Josh Bennett crashed into the barriers at Turn 1 after locking up. The stoppage proved beneficial for Invicta Racing, allowing the team to repair the car of reigning Formula 3 champion Camara after he had hit the wall on his first flying lap. The Brazilian went on to top the session, with Alex Dunne finishing second, a tenth of a second behind the Ferrari junior.
The second group's session then began with another red flag. Kush Maini hit Laurens van Hoepen entering the Nouvelle Chicane. The Dutchman's car then got stuck on the kerb, eliminating him from contention. Nikola Tsolov was the quickest in that group, however, his lap time was not better than Camara's, which means he will start from second place. As a result, the pole for the Sprint race went to Joshua Durksen. Cadillac's Colton Herta is set to start from P14.
