From Max Verstappen being told to "make his mind up" with regard to his F1 future, to Cadillac shutting down rumours claiming Valtteri Bottas could be sacked as early as the Monaco GP, here are the main stories from today, May 29.

Verstappen urged to make final call on F1 future: 'He needs to make up his mind'

Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher has once again criticised Max Verstappen following the Canadian GP, focusing on the Dutchman's public criticism of Red Bull during the weekend. Schumacher also suggested that for the betterment of all involved, Verstappen should decide his F1 future as soon as possible.
Following a P6 Qualifying finish, Verstappen cut a frustrated figure, suggesting he had repeatedly raised concerns with his team but had ultimately decided to let them learn the lesson for themselves: “Sometimes you have to let the team do their thing and clearly make it known that it’s not right and that it doesn’t work like this. I said 'Go ahead. If you really think this is how it works, then we’ll do that.' I’ve pointed it out so many times, but sometimes you just have to feel that it doesn’t work.”
Regarding his F1 future, Verstappen initially suggested the 2027 60:40 engine proposals could be enough to keep him in the sport, but later warned: “If it stays like this, it's going to be a long year next year, which I don't want. I can tell you if it stays like this, then let's see. It's just mentally not doable for me to stay like this. It's really not.”

Such comments have drawn criticism from former Williams driver Schumacher, who said on the Backstage Boxengasse podcast: “Verstappen was clearly frustrated. He said he had to let the team run into the wall. I told him that’s the wrong approach.
"It also shows there are tensions within the team. While I appreciate that he wears his heart on his sleeve and is very open about these things, matters like that should really stay in-house.”
“One day he says he’ll be driving in 2027, that everything is fine and that he feels comfortable. The next day he says that if things continue like this, he could start losing his enjoyment again. It’s all a bit complicated. At some point, he needs to make up his mind, and the whole team has to focus on looking forward.”

Cadillac boss slams 'completely incorrect' Valtteri Bottas exit rumours

Meanwhile, Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon has shut down rumours surrounding a possible early exit for driver Valtteri Bottas. An unfounded story had emerged suggesting reserve driver Colton Herta could replace the Finn, with Cadillac apparently unhappy with Bottas' performances compared to teammate Sergio Perez.
As per Planet F1, Lowdon has rubbished the rumours of Bottas' exit as "completely incorrect," instead focusing on the task at hand for both of the team's veteran drivers, effectively building a new F1 team from the ground up.
Lowdon said: "I mean, there is no foundation of truth in any of the rumours at all. I can categorically say that. Just… where do I start on the rumours themselves? I’ll make it really, really clear factually, they’re completely incorrect. There’s no basis of truth whatsoever in any of them.

“Secondly, if we look at the job that both drivers are doing, both Valtteri and Checo [Perez], they’re doing way more than drivers in some other teams are having to do, because we’re constructing the team while we’re racing at the same time, and that’s a very unusual task.”
“With all due respect, the outside world doesn’t know what we’re asking these drivers to do. Either session to session or race to race, and also what we’re asking them to do in terms of developing the car."
