Andrea Stella and Red Bull Racing are in favour of possible changes to power units, while exclusive interviews with Daniel Juncadella and David Coulthard are also featured. Recap the best news of the day with GPblog here! Stella keeps hardware changes on the table, Red Bull backs Verstappen
Red Bull Racing wants the hardware of the power units to be changed by 2027,
GPblog understands. As a result, the
team sides with its four-time world champion,
Max Verstappen, who was vocal about making big changes to the current regulations.
McLaren team principal
Andrea Stella also said that
Formula 1 must remain open to further changes after the Miami Grand Prix, keeping hardware adjustments on the table, he explained when answering
GPblog’s question.
He said: "Finally again, as I said before, there should be a consideration for some hardware changes, more for the longer term such that we can place the operating point of the power unit somewhere where less compromises are required from a chassis point of view, or from a driving point of view. We think this is possible and we think that all stakeholders should approach this conversation with the willingness to contribute."
The current dominant force, Mercedes, could do little if a supermajority exists, meaning that four of the five power unit manufacturers, the FIA, and Formula One Management support the plan.
Exclusives with Daniel Juncadella and David Coulthard
Speaking exclusively to
GPblog, Dani Juncadella, Verstappen's GT3 teammate, discussed his relationship with the Dutchman and his busy schedule this year. For the first time in his career, the Spaniard also competes in the hypercar category of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Former
F1 driver David Coulthard
also addressed the rumours around Verstappen and his future in Formula 1. He said:
“Everything's possible. I'm not sure Max knows right now what he'll do. It's a case of he doesn't have to decide right now, so why make any decision?”
