During a Pirelli tyre test at the Nurburgring, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris also took the opportunity to drive the Nordschleife circuit in sports cars. Like Max Verstappen, the drivers enjoyed the experience at the famous German track. During the April break in
Formula 1, which is taking place due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East, both
McLaren and Mercedes went to the Nurburgring for a Pirelli tyre test. George Russell, Kimi Antonelli, Norris and Piastri were all in action during the two-day test.
After
the tests were complete, the McLaren drivers also took part in a separate activity. The defending world champion and his Australian teammate both drove on the famous Nordschleife. McLaren also filmed both the tyre test and the drivers’ run on the Nordschleife, uploading it to its YouTube channel.
McLaren drivers enjoy the Nordschleife experience
Piastri drove his McLaren sports car in the rain. The Australian said: "Turns out when it's wet and cold, it's very, very, very slippery. I genuinely don't think I got above half throttle for the whole lap, so that was an eye opener. It was pretty sketchy." Asked to sum up his experience in three words, he added: "Scary as... I'll let you work out the rest."
Norris said after his turn with an enormous smile on his face: "It was pretty freaking sick. We hit 295. We would have gone quicker, but we had to go into the pit lane. Yeah, [it was everything I hoped for], I think it's more fun because we have to race cars and dive bomb people and all that." Watch the full video below!
