Ayao Komatsu has declined to explain the circumstances behind Esteban Ocon's sudden removal from Haas during the Mexican Grand Prix weekend, although the team principal has confirmed that the Frenchman's absence is not related to his health.
The American outfit surprised the paddock on Saturday morning by announcing that Ryo Hirakawa would replace Ocon for the remainder of the weekend, including qualifying and Sunday's race.
As GPBlog previously reported, the decision followed internal tensions at Haas, with Ocon's removal understood to be a disciplinary measure. The Frenchman was already set to leave the team at the end of the season, but his departure now appears to have come earlier than expected.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 during Saturday's final practice session, Komatsu was given the opportunity to clarify why Haas had decided to replace Ocon midway through the weekend.

However, the Japanese team principal offered little information, confirming only that Ocon was not suffering from an illness.

"I can't tell you much," Komatsu admitted, before confirming that Ocon was not ill. Questions also turned to Friday's FP2 session, when Ocon expressed his frustration over the team's run plan during a radio exchange with his engineer.
Asked whether that incident had contributed to the decision, Komatsu refused to discuss the matter further: "No, I'm sorry, but I can't go into any details."

Haas faces another driver decision ahead of Brazil
Ocon's absence has also created uncertainty over Haas' plans for next weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix. Hirakawa is expected to compete for Toyota in the World Endurance Championship at Monza, meaning he will not be available to race for Haas in São Paulo. That leaves the American team facing another potential driver decision if Ocon does not return.
Komatsu was asked whether Haas might need to turn to another reserve driver, but made clear that the team was not yet looking beyond the Mexican Grand Prix: "Again, I've not got there yet," he replied.
