Esteban Ocon has broken his silence following Haas' decision to withdraw him from the Mexican Grand Prix, addressing speculation surrounding the incident that led to his sudden absence from the race weekend. The Frenchman acknowledged that a disagreement took place on Friday evening but firmly denied allegations that physical violence was involved.
The situation emerged after Friday's practice sessions in Mexico City, with Ocon's departure from Haas understood to be the result of disciplinary action. The Frenchman was replaced by Ryo Hirakawa, bringing his participation in the weekend to an abrupt end. Now, Ocon has publicly addressed the controversy for the first time, offering his account of the events while calling for an end to speculation.

Ocon breaks silence and denies physical violence allegations

In a statement published on his social media account, Ocon confirmed that a disagreement occurred involving several parties, although he did not identify those involved or provide further details about the circumstances.
"Following the recent decision from Haas F1 Team confirming that I will not be participating in this weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix, I wish to formally address some media reports and speculation surrounding the situation.

"Last night, a difference in viewpoints led to a discussion with the parties involved. Whilst I acknowledge that this took place, I categorically reject any reports or allegations suggesting that any form of physical violence was used to resolve any differences of any nature."

The statement follows a turbulent period for Ocon at Haas. The Frenchman was already due to leave the American outfit at the end of the 2026 season, with Rafael Camara named as his replacement. However, the latest developments have brought his departure into focus much earlier than originally expected.
Tensions were also apparent during Friday's second practice session, when Ocon became involved in a disagreement over team radio with race engineer Laure Muller. However, that exchange was not understood to be the reason behind Haas' subsequent decision.

"I strongly condemn violence in all its forms and firmly believe that disagreements should always be handled with professionalism, respect, and mutual understanding."
With questions continuing to surround his future at the team, Ocon concluded his statement by asking for restraint while the situation is being addressed.
"I kindly ask that speculation be avoided while the matter is being addressed. Further updates will be communicated in due course."
