Lewis Hamilton took his first pole position of the year with the quickest time in qualifying for the Mexico City Grand Prix ahead of George Russell and Charles Leclerc.
The seven-time world champion took pole by just 0.009 seconds to Russell, both drivers needing to win tomorrow to have any hope of keeping the championship race alive. Although, that is only if Kimi Antonelli can't finish ninth or higher, with the Italian needing just two points to win the championship.
Leclerc would be disappointed with third after he was on pole after the first runs but had a scruffy second lap. Max Verstappen had the quickest first sector but locked up in the final sector and was only P4. The Dutchman will start behind Kimi Antonelli after he was handed a one place grid penalty for his contact with Liam Lawson in FP2.
Lando Norris, Isack Hadjar, Liam Lawson, Arvid Lindblad and Pierre Gasly rounded out the top 10.
In Q2, Hamilton and Norris both made mistakes at Turn 13 which put them under pressure to do a strong lap to avoid dropping out of qualifying. Norris would ultimately go P1 at the end of Q2, ahead of Verstappen, Leclerc and Hamilton.

The big shock in Q2 ultimately proved to be Oscar Piastri who finished nearly a second off his teammate in P13. Nico Hulkenberg, Franco Colapinto, Gabriel Bortoleto, Oliver Bearman and Carlos Sainz were also knocked out in Q2.
Q1 was interrupted with a red flag after Fernando Alonso suffered a suspected water pressure issue linked to the ERS system. Alonso was knocked out in Q1 along with Alex Albon, Ryo Hirakawa, replacing Esteban Ocon this weekend, Lance Stroll, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas.
