The first incident involved Sebastian Montoya, who broke his rear suspension after hitting the wall six minutes into the session. The Colombian driver only caused double yellow flags as he limped back to the pit lane, but the first red flag was then waved after Kush Maini lost control of his car and crashed into the wall.

The session resumed, but the green-flag period did not last long. With 18 minutes to go, Nico Varrone also hit the wall, causing the second red flag of the day.

After the first laps were completed, at the halfway point of the session, Alpine junior Alex Dunne led the session with a 1:45.4 ahead of Laurens van Hoepen and John Bennett.

Then, with five and a half minutes to go, the red flag was waved for the third time after Bennett hit the wall at Turn 11.

The session ended with Colton Herta also crashing out, which meant that Beganovic will start from pole position. Dunne finished in second place, while Camara completed the top three.
