F1 drivers weigh in on title fight
The
Formula 1 world championship is drawing to a close and the title battle is a very tense affair with five rounds to go.
Piastri leads the way ahead of his teammate Norris but Verstappen is continuing to close the gap.
The championship leader explained a lot of people thought it would be McLaren exclusive battle just after the summer break.
He said:
"I think probably yes [I thought it would be a McLaren duel], but I think probably everyone did [think that]. I think the run of form that he's had since Monza has been a bit of a surprise. I think that, again, there were flashes of that kind of performance at certain points earlier in the season, but there were also some pretty big dips." Perez added that he feels Verstappen has an opportunity to take the title this year. He told ESPN.com.mx:
“I think Max has a very good chance, he's going to be very good, and I think Max deserves it.” Verstappen's different former teammate,
Albon added:
"It seems like they [Red Bull] have got a good momentum right now. Their upgrade seems to be working; I think it was Monza. You can never count Max out. That's for sure."Bortoleto thinks
Verstappen already made history just by being in the battle. He added:
"Let's see what he can achieve. I think he's been winning recently quite a lot. I think the McLarens have been strong, but not as strong as maybe the beginning of the year when they were 1-2 every race."Check out our latest F1 paddock update below!
