Much of Fernando Alonso's recent career in Formula 1 has been a frustrating affair, as the double World Champion has languished in underperforming cars. This has sparked a range of vocal radio messages that have littered his tenure. Alonso's Formula 1 career hit its peak in 2006 when the Spaniard clinched his second world championship. Despite this success, the rest of his time in F1 has yielded less favorable results so far.
The two-time world champion is pushing for a third world title at
Aston Martin, but much of Alonso's career has been highlighted by some frustrated radio calls.
He hasn't won a race since 2013 when he took victory for Ferrari at the Spanish Grand Prix, and
Alonso has spent a lot of time floundering in the midfield.
This has sparked a multitude of radio messages berating lacklustre cars and questionable strategy calls.
Former Formula 1 driver Jolyon Palmer feels that the 2026 Aston Martin being designed by
Adrian Newey may bring a end to these outbursts.
Palmer said on the F1 Nation podcast: "How long have they waited to work together as well?
“The mutual respect there is through the roof, so I don’t know if we’ll necessarily get the same team radio messages coming back when there’s an Adrian Newey-built car that’s on the other end of it and a whole team galvanised to try and get back towards the front end."
Palmer anticipates a lot of mutual respect between Alonso and Newey
Palmer added: "I think the respect there is going to be immense.” Newey and Alonso have yet to work together, and it is a tantalising prospect to see the pair collaborate.
Aston Martin has endured a very difficult first half of 2025 as they are yet to score a top-five finish.
They are also eighth in the Constructors' Championship, five points behind Sauber and level with Racing Bulls. They are locked in the battle for sixth place which is a step down from a couple of years ago.
Alonso's arrival in 2023 injected a burst of energy into the Silverstone-based team as the Spaniard scored six podiums in the first eight races.
Since then, it has been a gradual decline, but a Newey-designed car in 2026 may boost Aston Martin up the field.
