AlphaTauri on its way to the top? 'He can also fight for the world title'

As a team, AlphaTauri seems to be increasingly distancing itself from Red Bull Racing. Behind the scenes, the sister team is still getting the parts, but is also striving for better performance in Formula 1.

In 2005 Red Bull made its debut in Formula 1 as a team and one year later Minardi was renamed Toro Rosso. The team that has always been dominated by young talent now had to become the breeding ground for Red Bull's training programme, but over the years the team has grown and Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly see that more is possible.

''I think the team has grown enormously and that's good to see. With the new rules to bring the field closer together I think there are serious opportunities to get closer to the top and fight for the podium more often. That would be fantastic'', Kvyat said to Motorsport.com.

Whereas Kvyat will probably have to give up his place to Yuki Tsunoda in 2021, Gasly is a man who will experience this growth. ''We should not underestimate the knowledge and facilities that the top teams have built up in recent years. However, I am optimistic about it,'' says the Frenchman, who is mainly looking at MotoGP.

''My good friend Fabio Quartararo is there with a private team (Petronas Yamaha SRT), but can just join in the fight for the world title (currently first in the standings). It would be great if we could do the same in Formula 1'', says Gasly.
