Alonso reveals the key question behind his F1 future: 'That's what I need to answer'

Fernando Alonso has confirmed that he will definitely not change teams at the Hungarian Grand Prix. He added that he will continue in Formula 1 if the current cars and regulations can still give him the adrenaline he needs.
For the Hungarian Grand Prix, Aston Martin brought its first major update package of the season. Honda is then set to introduce its updated power unit for the first time at Zandvoort. The Silverstone-based team already completed a filming day with the new engine in the car last Wednesday.
Alonso has no doubts about Aston Martin succeeding in Formula 1. The only question for him is when that will happen.
He explained: "I think I have a pretty clear picture of the team, that we will fix all the problems. They take time, but I have no doubts, zero doubts, that Adrian [Newey] will provide the best car on the grid sooner or later.

"As I said before, I would like to see the first step with this package, with the understanding after the first couple of races, and I think there’s going to be more to come next year, that’s for sure, and in the years to come.
"On the power unit, I have no doubt as well. I think it’s a matter of time before Honda fixes the issues, because it’s what they’ve been doing for the last 40 years of racing. We started on the back foot, yes. We are dealing with that process now and that pain on the weekends, but we are all working together to fix the issues. It’s just how soon the car will be competitive. That’s the question mark."
Alonso 'relaxed' about his future
During the British Grand Prix, Alonso indicated that he would make a decision about his future during the summer break.
The two-time world champion stressed that his decision will primarily depend on the current regulations in Formula 1.

"For me, I’m relaxed. As I’ve said many times, I’m thinking about what I need to do next year and in the years to come. I feel fresh, I feel motivated, I feel fast, but I need to enjoy what I do as well. As I said in Spa, I think the Silverstone Grand Prix and Spa were not fun to drive. I think it’s not fun to watch, it’s not fun to drive, and we’ve been repeating the same thing every single Grand Prix.
"It’s not to criticize anything. It’s just to improve the sport altogether. I think the direction that we took this year, from the driver’s side, I don’t know about the spectator’s side, but behind the cockpit it’s not the same adrenaline that I used to have driving a Formula 1 car.
"That’s something that I need to put on the table. It’s not a problem with the competitiveness of the team. It’s just a problem of whether Formula 1 gives me the adrenaline that I need to live."
No matter the position, Alonso will remain with Aston Martin, he once again confirmed that. "I do have a contract, so I’m not moving."
