Gasly on clash with Grosjean and qualy-failure

25-11-2018 10:44

Pierre Gasly has reflected on the eventful practise and qualifying session and remains positive ahead of the race later on today. Gasly had an incident with Romain Grosjean in the practise session and then had an issue with his engine in qualifying. Gasly starts in 17th and reamins positive that a strong perforamance is possible.

Gasly and Grojean were both sent to the FIA stewards but upon review neither drivers were punished for the incident. Instead, Gasly feels that the tyres are to blame and that they are too temperature sensitive.

"I think when you see it the pace we need to have on the cool laps it doesn;t really make sense at the moment." the French driver said. "I'm 1min 20secs slower than a quick lap which is a massive delta speed between cars." (www.crash.net)

"Romain came to appologise to me and told me his engineer didn't let him know and by the time he checked he didn't see me coming." (www.crash.net)

With repairs to his car Gasly was then set for qualifying but in Q1 and on his flying lap the Torro Rosso's Honda engine gave up. Gasly would have been quick enough for Q2 but instead starts nearer the back of the grid in 17th.

Gasly will be looking forward to next season when he is promoted to Red Bull but he will be hoping to put in a solid performance for his last race in a Torro Rosso.
