Charles Leclerc has put in an incredible performance to qualify 8th for todays Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi. The future Ferarri driver wouldn't have expected such a result after the practise sessions and will be looking to take qualifyings pace into the race.
Leclerc admits that "we had problems getting the tyres in the right temperature window. Due to high outside temperatures the tyres overheat quickly." (www.motorsport-total.com)
However, he found the pace in qualifying and qualified only 0.045 seconds slower than the Haas driver Romain Grosjean to him in 8th. Leclerc will be looking to overtake Grosjean and finish the race 'best of the rest' and leave his Sauber team with a strong victory before he leaves to Ferarri.
When reflecting on his debut year the young driver said that "When I think of my first three races... Everyone must have noticed that I improved a lot. I wanted to learn quickly in my debut year and the bottom line is that I can be satisfied." (www.motorsport-total.com)
Next season Leclerc will really be wanting to impress as he is given a drive in one of the leading teams. Firstly he will be wanting a strong performance in today's race to end his career at Sauber in a fitting way.
