Stroll caught on camera in viral exchange with a marshal after Azerbaijan GP DNF

Stroll’s Azerbaijan GP ended prematurely after Aston Martin instructed him to stop his car following an issue with water pressure. The Canadian started from the back of the grid alongside his team-mate after both drivers received penalties, but his race lasted only a few laps before the problem forced him out.

Getting back to the paddock was not straightforward for Stroll, however. With the Baku circuit still active and the race continuing around him, the Canadian was unable to simply cross the track and walk away. Instead, he had to wait for the marshals to determine when and how he could leave the area safely.

Footage filmed by fans at the circuit then captured an unusual exchange between Stroll and one of the marshals. Standing behind a barrier near his stranded Aston Martin, the driver appeared keen to leave rather than remain trackside for the rest of the race.

Stroll eventually made his feelings clear, telling the marshal: “I’m not waiting here until the end of the race. I’m out of here.” Moments later, he made another request, saying: “Give me the radio.”

The marshal subsequently helped Stroll leave the area, escorting him away and past the Aston Martin as the Canadian finally made his way out of the section of the circuit.

Things did not go particularly better for his team-mate, who also decided to return the car to the pits after suspecting an issue with the engine. This once again left Aston Martin with a costly double DNF, adding to what has been a highly difficult season for the team so far.

After 15 races, the Silverstone-based outfit remains second-bottom in the Constructors’ Championship with just three points to its name, nine behind Williams, who scored points with Carlos Sainz in tenth, and ahead of only Cadillac, who are still yet to score a single point.
