Lando Norris addresses social media hate storm with public apology

The McLaren driver experienced a bruising weekend along the Baku City Circuit, enduring an early exit that delivered another frustrating setback to his racing campaign. In the immediate aftermath, a visibly annoyed Norris aired his frustrations regarding an on-track flashpoint involving Williams rookie Colapinto.

The remarks quickly blew up across social media, igniting a toxic debate and sparking widespread online backlash between rival fan factions.

Recognising the impact of his post-race words, Norris moved decisively to quell the narrative before heading into the next round. Writing on Instagram, the Briton shared a behind-the-scenes shot from the garage, accompanied by an open and candid admission of fault.

"Tough weekend overall in Baku and of course a disappointing and early end to the race," Norris wrote.

Norris, who is no stranger to the relentless pressures and scrutiny of competing at the pinnacle of motorsport, also pointed to his own learning curve in Formula 1 when reflecting on the incident.

"I’ve made mistakes of my own over the years and I know this is very much a part of racing and fighting on the limit," the McLaren ace added.
