Newly crowned Formula 3 champion Mick Schumacher has admitted that a drive in the Formula 1 at his current state would be "very unrealistic", although he did stress that it's his ultimate goal to reach the sport.

The German had a slow start to the F3 season as Red Bull academy driver Dan Ticktum took a big lead in the championship, but since the race at Spa, Schumacher's been unstoppable. He won five races in a row and shot up the championship, eventually overtaking Ticktum in the standings and becoming the champion.

At 19 years of age, Schumacher himself thinks that he's not ready yet for F1, as he thinks he needs to go through more racing classes first.

"I could drive in Formula 1, that's clear," Der Rekordmeister's son told German broadcaster Sat.1.

“It’s still my big goal but it’s still very unrealistic.

“In order to be 100 per cent prepared to be there as a permanent driver, it’s necessary to go through all the different series of formulas."

This would suggest that he will be heading to Formula 2 next, as reports had already come out that several F2 (and DTM) teams have offered Schumacher a seat at their respective teams. He's definitely one to watch!
