George Russell was able to find the pace in the Sunshine State, as he topped the timing charts for FP2 ahead of Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez. Carlos Sainz and Nicholas Latifi caused red flags during the session, with the latter suffering severely less damage than the Ferrari driver.

Sainz pressure mounts more

The Ferrari driver was unable to regain his performance's seen at the start of the season and his poor run of form grows after a crash early in the session. A strong lap in the 1:30's saw him top the charts but heading into turn 14 at too much speed resulted in a spin and crash into the barriers. Luckily, he was okay and was able to walk away fine but it doesn't bode well for the weekend and leaves Ferrari's mechanics with a big task ahead of qualifying and FP3 tomorrow.

As for his teammate, it was another strong performance from Leclerc. However, with Mercedes finding the pace so far this weekend and Red Bull, once again, fighting the Scuderia with full force, it'll be interesting to see how the race standings will end up in the inaugural Miami Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton finished in fourth place and was only 0.135 seconds behind the Monegasque driver.

Max Verstappen barely made a feature in the session, as he was unable to steer his car after getting on track. Perez was able to find some pace, however, which should give the current World Champion a glimmer of hope ahead of tomorrow.

Midfield battle looking interesting in America

The battle for the midfield looks like it'll be a strong one in Miami after a FP2 session that saw a split across the timings charts. Only Alpine had both drivers in the top ten, with Fernando Alonso finishing fifth and Esteban Ocon claiming the ninth spot. As for McLaren, Lando Norris was able to find a lot more pace than Daniel Ricciardo, but all is still to play for as the drivers learn the track more and more.

Finally, Pierre Gasly has put himself in good stead compared to last time out in Imola, finishing in the top 10 and over half a second faster than his teammate Yuki Tsunoda.

Quiet session for Haas, Williams and Valtteri Bottas

Haas had a very quiet FP2 session, but Kevin Magnussen was still able to find himself in the top 10 at the end of the session. As for Williams and Alfa Romeo, the only standout was Guanyu Zhou. The rookie was in the top 10 for the majority of the session, whilst his teammate Bottas was unable to leave the garage after his incident in FP1.

Williams' strong performance in the first session today was soon overlooked after Alex Albon and Nicholas Latifi finished in 17th and 18th respectively.
