Marc Marquez has won the MotoGP Japanese Grand Prix ahead of Jorge Martin, completing a perfect weekend at the Motegi circuit.
Unlike during the Sprint, Martin managed to keep the lead after the start from Marc Marquez. Marco Bezzecchi also moved up to third place. After the rear soft tyres especially suffered from blistering on Saturday, the riders were also cautious during the opening laps.
By the end of Lap 3, the three championship contenders and Alex Marquez were able to pull away. However, the Gresini rider soon dropped back as he had to serve a double long-lap penalty for causing a collision during the Sprint.
While Bezzecchi began to lose touch with Martin and Marc Marquez as well, the defending world champion took the lead from Martin into Turn 9 on Lap 11.

Once Marquez was in the lead, Martin could not get close enough to the Ducati rider to launch an attack, and had to settle for second place.
It was especially important for Marquez to gain on his rival, as next week, the MotoGP grid visits the Mandalika circuit in Indonesia, which is one of Martin's strongest tracks on the MotoGP calendar. At the moment, the Ducati rider is only two points behind in the standings.
During the final laps, Bezzecchi was chased by Enea Bastianini, but the Aprilia rider managed to hold on to third place.

David Almansa won the Moto3 race ahead of Maximo Quiles and Alvaro Carpe. This meant that Quiles could not mathematically secure the title yet in Japan.
