Izan Guevara won the Moto2 race in Japan and cut his gap to Manuel Gonzalez in the standings after the championship leader's bike stalled on the grid. Tony Arbolino finished in second place, while Filip Salac completed the podium.
The Moto2 race began with drama as Manuel Gonzalez had to push his bike off the grid before the lights went out, and the Intact GP rider had to start from the pit lane. Meanwhile, Gonzalez's championship rival, Guevara, saw what happened and kept the lead after the start.
After the opening laps, three riders, including Guevara, Tony Arbolino and Filip Salac, began to pull away from the rest of the riders.
Arbolino remained on Guevara's heels, and with three laps to go, he made his first attempt. However, the Italian could not make the move stick and found himself under pressure from Salac.

The Fantic Racing rider was unable to launch another attack on Guevara, and thanks to this result, the future MotoGP rider is now only 10.5 points behind Gonzalez in the Moto2 standings.
