Jorge Martin claimed pole position for the MotoGP Japanese Grand Prix with a new lap record at the Motegi circuit.
Together with the three championship contenders, Marc Marquez, Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi, Alex Marquez, Pedro Acosta, Enea Bastianini, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Fabio Quartararo, Johann Zarco and Diogo Moreira have booked their place in Q2 during Friday's timed practice session in Japan.
The last two places in the final session were claimed by the Trackhouse riders, Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez, as Francesco Bagnaia was once again eliminated in Q1 and will have to start from P13 on the grid.
After the first set of laps was completed in Q2, Marc Marquez already kicked things off with a lap record at Motegi as the defending world champion set the pace ahead of his brother Alex Marquez and Bezzecchi.
Still, the 1:42.4 set by the Ducati rider was not enough for pole position, as Martin improved by a tenth of a second on his second attempt and snatched pole from his championship rival.

Acosta completed the front row in P3, while Bezzecchi had to settle for fourth place. Home favorite Ai Ogura is set to start from P11 on the grid.
