Reigning world champion Marc Marquez is now firmly in the picture to retain his crown in 2026. He explained his new approach to racing after his injury troubles, and how he remains competitive while striking a balance of finding the limit and conserving his health simultaneously.
Having trailed Marco Bezzecchi at one point in the year by over 100 points, Marquez has now surpassed him and sits 3rd in the overall championship standings - with 11 rounds still to go in the season.
Despite a rocky and injury-hit first half of the season, Marquez still managed to scrape together a few competitive results. Things came undone in Le Mans, when he suffered a massive high-side during the sprint which resulted in a double surgery and an absence from the Catalan Grand Prix.
Now my physical condition is ‘blocking’ me in some areas.

Nonetheless, a series of unfortunate events for Bezzecchi, combined with a consistent championship form from Marquez means that the 93 is now just 18-points behind championship leader Jorge Martin.

“In the first part of the season, with the nerve problem, I was crashing without warning,” Marquez explained to the media post-German Grand Prix, “Now my physical condition is ‘blocking’ me in some areas. I try to do the mistakes on Friday.”
“I prefer to crash there and try to understand where is the limit and survive in some circuits like Assen, as I did.
It is the exact same philosophy that was recently highlighted during the AMA Pro Motocross broadcast of Southwick, during which reporter Jason “JT” Thomas made the comparison between Marquez and the up-and-coming Coenen brothers.
As we head to Silverstone next on 7-9 August, Marquez has promised to be in full ‘attack mode’ as he expects to return to normal fitness. Marco Bezzecchi, who suffered a broken collar bone during qualifying in Germany, will also be hoping to regain a degree of fitness before arriving at the track he comfortably won at last year.
