Max Verstappen was left furious with Carlos Sainz during the final practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix, with the pair both summoned to see the stewards. Lewis Hamilton's accident brought out double yellows, forcing drivers to slow as marshals dealt with the stranded Ferrari. As Verstappen negotiated the caution zone, he was left incensed by the Williams of Sainz closing rapidly on the back of his Red Bull.
The four-time world champion immediately vented his frustration over team radio, saying: "What the f***? My god! It's, like double yellows and this car, it like, almost crashes in the back of me. Unbelievable."
Verstappen was clearly unhappy that his former teammate Sainz appeared to approach at speed despite the double yellow flag conditions, with the Dutchman believing the Spaniard came dangerously close to hitting the rear of his car as he slowed in accordance with the regulations.
Both drivers have been summoned to see the stewards, with Sainz the driver at risk of getting a penalty for allegedly failing to slow under yellow flags.
The incident added to an eventful FP3 session at Spa-Francorchamps, which was interrupted after Hamilton crashed heavily, bringing the session to a temporary halt and disrupting teams' final preparations ahead of qualifying.
Lewis Hamilton crashes in FP3
The close call involving Sainz and Verstappen happened towards the end of FP3 following Hamilton's heavy crash at Turn 13.
The seven-time world champion made a rare mistake as he lost control of his Ferrari and crashed into the same tyre barrier that Pierre Gasly did on Friday. The impact caused significant damage to the rear-end of Hamilton’s Ferrari and forced the seven-time world champion to stop on track.
"Yeah, I have destroyed the car mate," Hamilton told his team over the radio, before he checked the back of his stricken Ferrari, inspecting how much work his team will need to do before qualifying.
