Verstappen and Norris on course to take F1 longevity to new heights

Both the four-time world champion and the reigning world champion have effectively removed themselves from any potential driver-market switch for the foreseeable future, committing their long-term futures to their respective teams until the end of 2030.

Verstappen recently extended his stay with Red Bull, while Norris followed suit by signing a new McLaren deal, ensuring that two of Formula 1's biggest names are set to remain with the teams they have represented throughout the most successful periods of their careers.

Should the Dutchman see out his new Red Bull contract through to the end of 2030, Max Verstappen would become the driver with the most Formula 1 seasons for a single team. Having joined Red Bull midway through 2016, Verstappen would reach 15 seasons with the Milton Keynes-based outfit, moving comfortably beyond the current benchmark of 12 set by Lewis Hamilton during his spell with Mercedes between 2013 and 2024.

Norris could also climb towards the very top of the all-time list. The Briton has spent his entire Formula 1 career with McLaren since making his debut in 2019 and, if he remains in Woking colours until his recently renewed contract expires at the end of 2030, he would reach 12 seasons with the team. That would put Norris level with Hamilton and one season ahead of Michael Schumacher, who completed 11 campaigns with Ferrari between 1996 and 2006.

Several other long-standing partnerships sit just behind them, with Mark Webber, David Coulthard, Jim Clark, Jacques Laffite and Mika Häkkinen all reaching nine seasons with the same team or organisation, while a number of drivers recorded eight.

Two current names are already part of that latter group in 2026: Charles Leclerc is contesting his eighth season with Ferrari, while Lance Stroll has reached the same total with the Racing Point/Aston Martin operation. Both are still active with their respective teams, meaning their totals have the potential to rise further.

Only a few months ago, the Monegasque signed another multi-year extension with Ferrari, although the exact length of the agreement was not disclosed. That leaves Leclerc well placed to surpass the 10-season mark with the Scuderia and potentially chase Michael Schumacher's benchmark of 11 campaigns in Ferrari colours.
