After weeks of mounting pressure and speculation, Kimi Antonelli silenced some of the noise with a much-needed result in Baku.
The Italian youngster, who had struggled to match his teammate in recent outings, crossed the line in fourth place, narrowly missing out on the podium behind Carlos Sainz. For the Spaniard, it was a landmark result — his first podium with Williams and of the 2025 campaign.
Antonelli’s future, however, remains a talking point. Both he and George Russell are out of contract at the end of the season, with Mercedes yet to confirm any extensions.
With Max Verstappen no longer a realistic option, Toto Wolff moved to end the uncertainty ahead of the Singapore weekend, making it clear where Antonelli stands in the team’s plans.

After the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the FIA conducted a detailed inspection of Carlos Sainz’s Williams, following his maiden podium finish with the team.
Post-race, the governing body revealed that several elements of the rear brake system had been examined. The checks confirmed the car’s full compliance with regulations, officially validating the Spaniard’s first podium appearance in Williams colours.
