Last season,
Valtteri Bottas collided with Kevin Magnussen during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, earning a five-place grid penalty. Due to a rule change, any grid penalty that cannot be served within twelve months becomes void.
With Bottas set to return to
Formula 1, the question arose whether the Finn would still have to serve his grid penalty. Last season, while driving for Sauber, he collided with Magnussen during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He retired from the race and was subsequently handed a grid penalty for the next event.
Since Bottas won’t be on the grid in 2025, the penalty hasn’t yet been served. Recent regulation changes also raised questions about whether he would need to serve it upon his return, as grid penalties now expire if not served within 12 months. But does that apply to the Finnish driver as well?
Emerson Fittipaldi’s son, Emerson Jr., is making his mark in motorsport and is currently competing in the Eurocup-3 series. In an interview with the Brazilian edition of Motorsport.com, the son of the two-time Formula 1 World Champion revealed that he has become a fan of Max Verstappen.
When asked who his favorite driver was growing up, Fittipaldi Jr. said he admired Lewis Hamiltonand Mercedes as a child. At the time, the Brit and his team were dominating the sport, with Hamilton winning six world titles in seven years and Mercedes claiming eight consecutive Constructors’ Championships. Eventually, young Fittipaldi's preference changed.
Having put behind him a first half of the season where he was rarely among the main contenders at the top of the standings—aside from his sprint race win in China—Lewis Hamilton is ready to reclaim what everyone expects from him.
The seven-time world champion has endured a difficult season so far, marked by plenty of lows and few highs, and he is still chasing his first podium as a Ferrari driver—despite coming very close at his home race in Silverstone last month.
Lewis is certainly not a driver to give up easily though, as his recent post on social media clearly shows. The former Mercedes driver shared some shots from his training sessions, showing him working hard with weights at the gym, accompanied by the caption "no days off."
