Max Verstappen is set to make his first professional GT3 appearance this weekend at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The three-time World Champion will drive for Emil Frey Racing, teaming up with Chris Lulham for the event on the famous German circuit.
The car, carrying Verstappen.com Racing colours, has already been spotted both in the team’s garage and out on track in preparation.
It’s believed to be the same car Verstappen used earlier this year when he reportedly set an unofficial lap record around the “Green Hell.”
Just two weeks ago, Verstappen was at the Nordschleife completing laps in a 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport as part of the process to secure his A licence for the track
That outing, run with Lionspeed GP, was more of a stepping stone. Now he steps up into a full GT3 machine, a much faster car and the one that will give him a real chance to fight for victory.
Red Bull Racing's Chief Advisor Helmut Marko could hardly contain his joy over Verstappen's eagerness to race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Speaking with Sport.de, Marko revealed Verstappen had been allowed to part take in the legendary endurance race in a jubilant "Yes!"
"I think it's great that a Formula 1 driver, who has a lot of obligations in addition to the races - simulator, marketing and PR appointments - then takes the time for something like this with huge enthusiasm," Marko added.
Marko then lauded the endurance race as something that every driver dreams of, even more so when things are not going as desired sportingly.
"At the time when our car wasn't competitive, that was his great passion. Now both work. I'm sure he'll compete and he'll be prepared to fight for the overall victory."
Whether the Dutchman is in the fray for the win will be revealed this Saturdayin GPblog's liveblog coverage of the event!
