Marquez and Ducati need to bounce back in the champion's backyard

Marquez held provisional pole halfway through Q2 on Saturday, but after he had to lift during his second attempt in qualifying, the defending world champion endured a difficult weekend.

Issues with tyre degradation hurt him during the Sprint, as he fell down to ninth place. After a good start on Sunday and briefly running in third, he crossed the finish line in seventh.

This meant that the Ducati rider lost significant ground in the riders' standings, as Jorge Martin won the Sprint and finished second behind Raul Fernandez in the race at Silverstone.

Entering last weekend, Marquez was only 18 points behind, but that gap has now increased to 40 points.

Up next is the Aragon Grand Prix, one of Marc Marquez's most successful circuits. He has won at the Spanish circuit a total of eight times in MotoGP and once in Moto2. On the other occasions when he finished the race, he finished second once and 13th in 2014.

Since joining Ducati, Marquez has also been perfect at MotorLand Aragon. Over the past two seasons, he has won both the Sprint and the Grand Prix at the Spanish circuit.

Speaking to DAZN after the British Grand Prix, Marquez said: “It's the same thing I've been saying all along - we have to improve if we want to fight for the championship.
