Hamilton, who was initially scheduled to partake in the 2026 tyre test alongside teammate Charles Leclerc, was announced to be replaced by reserve driver Zhou Guanyu. With the scepticism growing regarding why he was set to miss out on his scheduled outing, Hamilton took to his Instagram to write:
“Please keep Roscoe in your thoughts. I want to keep you all updated. Roscoe caught pneumonia again and was struggling to breathe.”
“ He was admitted into hospital and sedated to calm him while they did checks on him, and during the process, his heart stopped. They managed to get a heartbeat back, and now he’s in a coma. We don’t know whether he will wake from this. Tomorrow we’ll try to wake him up. I’m by his side and want to thank you all for your prayers and support.”
Roscoe, who had over the years become a famous face in the F1 paddock, has been battling pneumonia. The 12-year-old has often frequented the hospital and also had his diet switched to vegan.

Zhou Guanyu to replace Lewis Hamilton at testing

Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu is expected to hit the track in Mugello in place of Lewis Hamilton. The former Alfar Romeo star, who serves as reserve driver for the Italian outfit, will partner Charles LEcelecr in a Mule SF-25 car.
The tyre test organised by Pirerlli is part of the preparation for the sweeping changes set to herald F1 from the 2026 campaign. The tyre sizes are set to change in size, as well as several other modifications set to herald F1 in 2026.
