Indianapolis limits number of spectators Indy 500 to 50 percent of capacity

The Indianapolis 500 is currently scheduled for August 23rd. That will take some time and new owner of the Speedway, Roger Penske, has even indicated earlier that he is willing to postpone the event even further if there are no spectators present at the race in August. Nevertheless, the circuit now indicates that they are willing to make concessions.

Perhaps prompted by the increase in the number of COVID-19 infections last week, J. Douglas Boles (president of Indianapolis Motor Speedway) declared on Friday that he would come up with extensive precautions against the coronavirus after all. The following statement was on the circuit's website:

That means the circuit still plans to admit over 100,000 spectators on the day of the race. However, a lot more tickets have been sold at the moment. The organisation therefore invites people at risk to stay at home and encourages others to exchange their tickets for vouchers.
