Kimi Antonelli risks a penalty following an unsafe release incident involving Franco Colapinto during the closing stages of the Brazilian Grand Prix, despite helping Mercedes secure the Constructors' Championship at Interlagos.
The incident occurred when rain returned to the Brazilian circuit in the final laps, forcing drivers to abandon their slick tyres and switch back to intermediates.
During his pit stop, Antonelli was released into the path of Colapinto's Alpine, with the two drivers coming dangerously close to colliding in the pit lane.
The incident was placed under investigation, with a five-second time penalty emerging as a possible sanction for the Italian. However, the stewards have yet to confirm their decision.

Antonelli eventually crossed the finish line in fifth place, contributing valuable points as Mercedes mathematically secured the Constructors' Championship with three races remaining.
The Italian started the race strongly, taking the lead from polesitter Lando Norris in the opening stages and establishing himself as a contender for victory.
However, his hopes suffered a major setback on lap 20 when he spun at Turn 1, allowing Norris to reclaim the lead. Antonelli managed to continue without significant damage, although he subsequently lost further positions as the race unfolded.

The Mercedes driver also reported unusual behaviour from his car, complaining over the radio that it was pulling to one side under acceleration. Despite those difficulties, Antonelli remained in contention for a strong result and was involved in the battle for the podium as the race approached its conclusion.

With conditions deteriorating again in the closing stages, Mercedes instructed Antonelli to let teammate George Russell through on lap 64, allowing the Briton to pursue the Red Bull drivers ahead.
Antonelli complied with the instruction and eventually finished fifth, immediately behind Russell, who took fourth place. The race was won by Norris, who held off a remarkable comeback from Max Verstappen, with Isack Hadjar completing the podium.
Even if Antonelli receives a five-second time penalty, he is likely to retain fifth place, having crossed the finish line 20 seconds ahead of Oscar Piastri. The gap should be more than enough to keep the Italian ahead of the McLaren driver in the final classification.
