Mercedes have clinched the 2026 Constructors’ championship at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, with drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli finishing P4 and P5, respectively, at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace.
Fresh off the back of Antonelli’s historic Drivers’ title victory at the Mexico City GP last weekend - with the Italian becoming the youngest F1 champion ever at just 20 years old - Mercedes came in to Round 20 knowing all they had to do was score three more points than Ferrari to secure the double championship win at Interlagos.
Under mixed conditions at the iconic Brazilian circuit, Ferrari had it all to do in Sao Paulo, with both drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton starting the race outside of the points positions, while Antonelli and Russell lined up second and seventh.
While Leclerc started P14 after taking a 10-place engine penalty, his teammate Hamilton was forced to start at the back of the grid after a complete engine change was brought on by power unit issues during Friday’s FP3. The Briton in P20, just ahead of arch rival Max Verstappen, who recovered from his own engine penalty to finish PX.
