Mercedes seized on the clip of Kim Kardashian 'stealing' Monaco Grand Prix winner Kimi Antonelli's towel to have a bit of fun on social media, posting a video that sparked just as much amusement online. Only a few hours after Antonelli's dominant victory in Monaco, which allowed the Mercedes youngster to extend his advantage at the top of the drivers' standings, an unexpected moment away from the track ended up stealing the spotlight. Ahead of the podium ceremony,
Kim Kardashian was seen using the towel prepared for the race winner to cool herself down, prompting plenty of laughter among those nearby. The clip quickly spread across social media, where it generated a wave of reactions from fans.
Mercedes also joined in on the joke with a light-hearted social media video released in the aftermath of the incident. In the clip, Antonelli humorously searches for his missing towel, suggesting it had mysteriously disappeared following the events in Monaco. Russell is also drawn into the skit, only to dismiss any knowledge of its whereabouts. The video then closes with Antonelli washing his hands and being left without anything to dry them on, a playful nod to the now-viral moment.
Wolff had to warn Antonelli in Monaco: 'Bono told him, then I repeated it'
Wolff was full of praise for Antonelli after the Monaco Grand Prix, highlighting the young Italian’s remarkable maturity and composure despite leading comfortably at the front of the field. According to the Mercedes team boss, Antonelli showed complete control throughout the race, managing both the car and the pressure from behind with ease.
The Austrian also revealed that Mercedes repeatedly tried to convince Antonelli to ease off after he had built a significant advantage. Both race engineer Peter Bonnington and Wolff himself reminded the championship leader of the sizeable gap he had over the chasing pack, but Antonelli continued to produce the same impressive lap times, prompting the team to conclude that it was simply his natural race pace.
"Bono told him first, then I repeated it. I added to Bono. You have to tell him he's half a minute ahead." Peter repeated the message, but Kimi kept doing those times, so we thought maybe that was his pace."
The victory also carried extra significance for Mercedes, as it marked the team's first triumph around the streets of Monaco since 2019. Wolff admitted success in the Principality has often proved elusive despite several near-misses over the years, making the return to the top step of the podium an especially satisfying achievement.
