Monza‘s future in F1 saved? Major renovation finally underway

Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Liberty Media, warned late last year that the future of the F1 weekend in Monza is under pressure. The Italian Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza is on the calendar until the end of 2025, but negotiations for an extension with the track's owners were halted. Domenicali stepped up pressure by saying Monza was behind on the announced renovations and modifications at and around the circuit.

So now work has started on the promised renovations and so the extension of the contract can possibly be discussed again. 21 million euros will be invested. It should make 'The Temple of Speed' more modern, high-quality, safe, comfortable and sustainable.

Domenicali: "The important work starting here today is the first step to adapt the facilities at Monza to the standards required by modern Formula 1. I would like to thank the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, the President of Lombardy, the President of the Automobile Club of Italy and the Mayor of Monza for the efforts that led to this announcement and making the investment possible. I look forward to this work being completed in time for the Italian Grand Prix in September and I hope the whole programme of works will continue in the coming years."
