Tsunoda rules out switch and focuses on this difficult scenario

After five seasons in Formula 1, Tsunoda's career as a full-time driver came to a halt. The Japanese driver had hoped to continue as Max Verstappen's teammate, but Red Bull Racing opted to promote Isack Hadjar instead.

This year, Tsunoda is serving as the team's reserve driver, meaning he is still present in the paddock.

There, much of the glitz and glamour has faded. Beyond sponsor commitments, Tsunoda often appears to be wandering around somewhat dejected. GPblog asked him in Hungary how things were going, and he gave a strikingly candid answer: “Boring.”

Tsunoda misses the competition and driving the fastest cars in the world, but he surely realizes that there are only limited opportunities for him to return to the grid.

A temporary return to Red Bull Racing or Racing Bulls would be possible if one of the full-time drivers were unable to compete for any reason. A permanent comeback is, however, unrealistic given the strong performances of Arvid Lindblad and Liam Lawson. Moreover, Formula 2 talent Nikola Tsolov is also waiting in the wings.

Earlier this season, Tsunoda was linked with a move to Haas, but GPblog understands there is no truth to these rumors.

All in all, there are likely to be few opportunities left for Tsunoda. He is said to be hoping for a chance at Alpine, replacing Franco Colapinto, but that appears unlikely as well.

Nevertheless, Tsunoda does not appear to be giving up on his Formula 1 dream. GPblog understands there is interest from IndyCar, with Honda keen to see its protégé in a car powered by the Japanese manufacturer. However, for now, Tsunoda prefers to focus entirely on finding a new opportunity in F1.

A move to the American series is not something Tsunoda is currently considering, this website has heard.
