'Budgetcap will play no role in the relationship between Mercedes and Racing Point

Cyril Abiteboul of Renault suggested that the upcoming budgetcap could create friction between works teams and their customers. Otmar Szafnauer of Racing Point thinks differently and doesn't see why their relations with Mercedes might be diluted.
Abiteboul's idea was the suggestion that larger teams are less willing to share or sell technology to customer teams if the differences are already a lot smaller because of the budgetcap. Szafnauer tells Motorsport.com not to worry about this. After all, the large teams continue to have a big advantage.
"I understand the theory, but in the end I can't look into the future. In 2022 the teams will still have a big advantage. They won't have suddenly forgotten how to develop a fast racing car. Impossible. Besides having the right tools, you have to have the right people."

Competition not fairer despite cap?

In this case, that means that the budgetcap will not cause a major turnaround in the competition in the short term. Especially in the midfield there would be an even more exciting battle, but attacking the top three might take another couple of years.

Szafnauer: "There will always be some sort of area in F1 that makes a difference and where one team knows how to beat the other. In the course of time, as soon as we know the details of the rules, we will have to find out what will make the difference".
