Former Formula 1 driver Pastor Maldonado understands why Aston Martin is facing significant problems ahead of the Australian Grand Prix. The Venezuelan, who raced for several teams including Williams, believes the teams simply did not have enough preparation time ahead of the new season.
Former Grand Prix driver Maldonado says in an exclusive conversation with GPblog after Newey’s revelation that he believes Aston Martin is far from done. The team, he insists, will make a comeback. “They must be. Everyone is under pressure in Formula 1. I can remember so many difficulties back in the past with different teams. And at the end of the day, they all solve the problems. You know, they always solve the problems."

Maldonado sees an interesting time ahead

According to the Venezuelan, the road to success will be interesting to follow. "So, it will be very interesting, the approach, how quick they react if, really, they know what the problem is, which is another thing. Who is telling you they solve this problem, they will not discover another one because they have no time to run the car? So, it's going to be very interesting."

Formula 1 is starting a new era this weekend, with completely overhauled technical and engine regulations. That creates challenges, as seen at Aston Martin. "Maybe this race they need to compromise a race or maybe a couple of races in order to at least finish a race," Maldonado continues.
Maldonado also says: “I am 100 percent sure that the rest of the teams will have some problems during the beginning of the season, the first four or five races, it's only a learning process for everyone."
"Also, from the technology point of view, because you design, you go to the dyno, you go only two or three days to the track—it’s not enough, It’s not enough for these kinds of deep changes," says Maldonado, who in any case will be closely following the race next weekend from his home in Monaco.
