The Verstappen.com-backed Winward team has been handed a three-place grid penalty after contact caused by Lucas Auer in Qualifying Race 1 at the Nürburgring Qualifiers.
The No. 3 Verstappen Mercedes-AMG has been penalised following a collision with the No. 941 Adrenalin Cayman of Adrian Rziczny, Mark van der Snel and Max van der Snel during qualifying.
As a result, despite finishing sixth in the morning session, Verstappen and Auer will start from ninth on the grid for this afternoon’s race.

The stewards noted that the driver of car #941 remained on the racing line and was unaware of the faster-approaching #03. They also recorded that the driver of car #03 attempted to exploit a gap but misjudged the move, later apologising after his stint.
On that basis, they deemed a three-place grid drop for the next race to be an appropriate penalty.
"The driver of car #941 stated that he stayed on the racing line and did not notice the approaching faster car #03. The driver of car #03 stated that he saw the gap and misjuged the situation, Furthermore he directly apologized to #941 after his stint.
