Lando Norris' FP2 was cut short after just 15 minutes at the Monaco Grand Prix. A car failure meant the Briton's car simply stopped after the tunnel in Monte Carlo. Another issue with a Mercedes power unit caused Norris to have a shortened FP2 session in Monaco. The incident did not lead to a red flag, but it did result in a Virtual Safety Car after Norris was forced to stop his MCL40 at the Nouvelle Chicane. The Woking-based team suspects it was probably caused by an electrical fault, but they will further investigate once the car is back in the pit lane.
The team's CEO, Zak Brown, told Sky Sports: "We need to investigate it. He lost all power. It looks like it might be battery related but we need to look into it. It is what it is. We won't get back out, so we will have to diagnose it, replace it and go again tomorrow morning."
After the first 15 minutes, Norris was sitting in eighth place. His fastest lap time at that moment was 1.5 seconds slower than the one set by Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari on medium tyres.
The VSC lasted only three minutes, as the marshals removed the papaya car from the circuit.
