Alexander Albon and Liam Lawson have been penalised post-sprint race, thus altering the results at the flag.
For Alexander Albon, the penalty was due to him being "below the minimun time set in the ECU (Engine Control Unit, ed.) in three consecutive sectors at the beginning of the Safety Car period," the official FIA document read.
Whils the Stewards not that the conditions were 'not ideal' and that the Thai driver did not create an unsafe or dangerous situation, they still issue the prescribed penalty, without adding any penalty points to his license, though.
For Liam Lawson, however, the case was entirely different. There was already no love lost between the New Zealander and Fernando Alonso, but now the situation is even more precarious, with Lawson being the driver who ended the Spaniard's race by collecting his Aston Martin car and sending him to the wall, thus ending his race.
Lawson was attempting an overtake on Alonso into Turn 11. "Although being able to pull fully alongside, the front axle of Car 30 was not ahead of the front axle of Car 14 at the apex as required per the Driving Standards Guidelines," the FIA document notes.
Lawson was therefore not entitled to racing room at the exit of the corner. "Due to the layout of the terack the car which has the right to the racing line in Turn 11 also has the right to the racing line in Turn 12."
"Car 30 drove to the very edge of the track between Truns 11 and 12 and collided with Car 14 on the approach to Turn 12. The Stewards determine that Car 30 was predominantly at fault and therefore consider a 5 seconds penalty to be appropriate taking into account the track conditions," concluded the Stewards.
