As expected, Yuki Tsunoda is
Pierre Gasly's new teammate at AlphaTauri. This will be the first time since 2014 that a Japanese driver can be admired in
Formula 1 and
Honda's dream will come true.
Tsunoda has been part of the
Honda Formula 1 project for many years, for which he was also allowed to drive Formula 4 in Japan. In 2018, after three attempts, he won the title and Tsunoda left for Europe. There he needed some adjustment time, but in
Formula 3 he won a race anyway and was on the podium three times.
Tsunoda can go to F1
In 2020, Tsunoda had to make the immediate switch to
Formula 2. Helmut Marko wanted to see what Honda's talent could do and did not disappoint. Tsunoda finished third in the standings and was the best rookie of the season.
Those performances not only gave Tsunoda a super license but also a place at AlphaTauri in Formula 1. There Tsunoda proves himself alongside
Pierre Gasly and replaces
Daniil Kvyat. With Tsunoda, Japan is finally represented again in Formula 1, after Kamui Kobayashi had to leave the sport at the end of 2014.
