Charles Leclerc has just signed a new multi-year contract with Ferrari on the eve of his home Grand Prix in Monaco. Will it prove to be the right decision? GPblog's Jim Kimberley and Ben Hunt discuss it in the latest episode of the GPblog Paddock Update! The Monegasque has effectively committed himself to Ferrari for the rest of his career, signing what is both the third and most significant contract extension of his
Formula 1 journey. The new deal comes at a time when Leclerc has reached full sporting maturity and is approaching the age of 30.
With this latest agreement, he is also putting himself in a position to become one of the longest-serving drivers in Ferrari's history, further underlining the strength of the bond between the two parties despite the fact that a Formula 1 world title has yet to arrive.
On the other hand, one of the biggest questions surrounding Leclerc's future is whether that long-awaited first world title will ever come while remaining at Maranello, or whether he might have been better off seeking his fortunes elsewhere. The Ferrari driver is now in his eighth season in Formula 1, and even this year a championship challenge appears unlikely given Mercedes' clear advantage over the rest of the field.
The Monegasque has nevertheless chosen to continue his leap of faith despite the lack of results in recent years. Ferrari, meanwhile, can continue to rely on one of the grid's undisputed top talents, hoping to finally provide him with a car capable of fighting for victories and, ultimately, the world championship.
Leclerc makes emotional Ferrari pledge: 'The dream is still alive!'
Reflecting on his journey so far, Leclerc recalled both the unforgettable highs and the painful lows he has experienced with the Scuderia. The victories remain among the most emotional moments of his career, while the setbacks have only strengthened the bond he feels with the team. For the Monegasque, that shared history is precisely what makes the relationship so special.
Leclerc acknowledged that decisions in Formula 1 are constantly scrutinised, but insisted there was never any doubt in his mind when it came to committing his future to Ferrari. He explained that his faith in the team goes far beyond what happens on track, stressing the importance of loyalty and trust in a sport where change often comes quickly. In his view, those values matter more than ever and played a key role in his decision to sign a new deal.
The Ferrari driver also described the renewal as more than just a commitment to the future, seeing it as recognition of everything he and the team have already achieved together. He reiterated the pride he feels in representing Ferrari and vowed to continue giving everything he has to help return the Scuderia to the top of Formula 1.
