Stoffel Vandoorne is hoping to quench his thirst for points during
McLaren's home race at
Silverstone this weekend, as the Belgian has been on a five-race drought from a points finish.
Vandoorne was hyped up as a big talent who was ready to plug-and-play in the Formula One when he first made his debut at Bahrain in 2016, but the Belgian has had some difficulties this year. Maybe it's the massive shadow of his teammate Fernando Alonso, maybe it's McLaren consistently giving him a poor car, but Vandoorne has been subpar.
He's the only driver on the grid who hasn't beaten his teammate in qualifying yet a single time. We're nine races into the season! We're as convinced as everyone that Vandoorne is a good driver, because he's shown flashes of very good driving in his young career already, but that record needs to stop as soon as possible.
Now, he's hoping to put a positive end to the tripleheader in front of McLaren's home crowd in England.
"Everyone in the team has worked hard in this tripleheader and it's very nice to finish it with our home race," he told FormulaPassion.
"We are pushing hard to have available new components that can allow us to get the most out of our package.
"It will also be interesting to see how the tires will work on a track that has recently been resurfaced."
When talking about his own performances and his streak of finishing without points, the Belgian is positive going into this weekend.
"I hope to have a good weekend to redeem a very tough race in Austria.
"We showed good potential for Sunday but, after a rather complicated start, we were hampered by a series of technical problems.
"This is why I really hope to be able to mark the final race of this hat-trick with a good performance in front of the British fans."
