Ferrari might be leading the constructors' championship and Sebastian Vettel might be leading the drivers' championship, but 2016 world champion
Nico Rosberg thinks that his former team Mercedes are still the best at everything in F1.
When he says everything, he really means everything. Not just the car, also the drivers, maybe even the coffee in the cantina. There is nothing better than the Silver Arrows if you ask Rosberg.
"The drivers are the best, the engine is the best and there is no team with better aerodynamics than Mercedes either," the German told FormulaPassion.
"It's clear that Mercedes are the strongest team, which is something they achieve because few people leave the team.
"There's calmness and order, which makes it a more stable place than other teams."
If all of this is true, why are Ferrari leading both championships, then? Why have both Ferrari and Red Bull won as many races as Mercedes this year, and why is Valtteri Bottas all the way down in sixth place? Mercedes certainly aren't the totally dominant anymore that they were in past years; the competition seems to have caught up.
"That's because those teams have paid attention during the winter," Rosberg explained.
"They have the chance then to work on their cars, isolated from the other teams.
"During the season Mercedes know how to make bigger steps, which is why they are still the front-runners."
We aren't sure if we agree with Nico on this one - yes, Mercedes have been unlucky at times (particularly Bottas), but you can't deny the fact that Ferrari and Red Bull have really caught up with Mercedes compared to past years. The Silver Arrows might still win another double title, but it won't be an easy one.
