F1 great Niki Lauda sadly passed away earlier in 2019 and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has admitted that not a day goes by where he doesn't think about the three-time world champion.
It was a great year for Mercedes on the track, winning 15 races, securing 17 podiums and ten pole positions.
"We experienced many ups and downs and in the end, we were able to triumph for the sixth time in a row. But for me and many other team members, Niki's death is the overwhelming event that has overshadowed the whole season," Wolff said in his season review.
"His death hit us hard and I still think of him every day," says the 47-year-old Austrian. “It still feels unreal to no longer have him on the team.
"We grew together in the past years, in the end, he was probably my closest friend and I miss having him in the races. We have lost a friend, and of course, that affects us a lot. 2019 will remain the year in which we lost Niki."
